Amir Taghi Celebrates his Last Collection Before Heading to London to Attend the prestigious Central Saint Martins

1Amir Feature The finale of the last  Amir Taghi collection before leaving for London this summer in the warmth of his parents’ home surrounded by close friends and family

For Amir Taghi and his very close knit family and friends….it was a joyful yet bittersweet  celebration. For those of us that have watched him grow, it’s tough to say good-by for a few years and I feel, even for Amir, it wasn’t easy as he steps out into a new venture that will be life-changing and a little scary at the same time. However, the crow of 150+ followers were all there for one purpose to send him off in grand style and the room was filled with PRIDE….proud of our Houston “kid”, talented beyond his years,  leaving for a very grown up world.  The air was jubilant with  the crowd cheering for the collection that we were watching unfold. The reaction from the crowd was that we unanimously felt to be his best to date. What a send-off he gave to us and vice versa.

When I asked Amir about his inspiration for this collection these were his comments, “When I began creating the Fall collection I had just found out that I would be moving to London. I wanted to to look to the future and so I began to look my future that would be London. One of my favorite time period is the 60’s (mine also BTW!) because I am obsessed with the free spirited attitude of the time. It was a youth quake. You could be free! It inspired by mixing of unlikely fabric choices….velvet with lace for example.”

Argentina, another influence says Taghi “came into the design and the attitude of the collection. The Argentine culture has this sensual attitude.  Like 1960’s London, Argentina has a free spirited attitude. I wanted to show sheer fabrics and I also showed a pop of color with the Floral fabric.  Two pieces that really showed the attitude is the black cut out gown and the velvet lace pants with floral tops.”
