Arm Yourself…Spring’s quiet trend, SLEEVES are in, as Seen on Golden Globe Red Carpet

Strapless gowns could not be missed at the Globes festivities on Sunday night, but there was another trend quietly brewing on many of the celebs that began as a chatter during the runway shows in September.  Sleeves are returning as a stylish option for Spring. Bare arms will no longer be your only alternative for the coming season.  This fashion idea will bring smiles to many of the faces of our town’s most style-savvy, yet practical women.  As how to put their arms under cover is one of the most common questions asked of me at many of my fashion workshops.  Practically speaking, toned arms are a challenge to many, at all ages, and do we not live in the most air-conditioned city in the world! (brrr!)

Sleeves will be present on garments at all lengths, a point made by Ms. Anna Wintour herself, to the stylish luncheon crowd she addressed at Neiman Marcus in November.  Warning: Short sleeves must be worn with caution and attention to the details. If not hitting your arms at just the right spot, can add width to your upper arms.  Three-quarter or elbow lengths are a much more universal choice, as well as long sleeves. This look was a stand-out at the recent awards show.  Is there anything sexier on a woman, for evening, than a long-sleeve, high neck, backless gown….beats cleavage any day!

There has been so much written about the trends of Golden Globe night, from the blush to nude neutral colorations to fishtail hemlines, to lots of beads and metallic, but the following are a few of my other favorites!

Shades of Blue:

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang; Freida Pinto in Prada; Bernenice Bejo in Ellie Saab; Kelly Osborne in Zac Posen

Many designers are in love with blue again for Spring. From the deepest midnight blues to rich hues ranging from peacock to cobalt, this color will be a favorite for many to wear.

Bursts of Yellow:

Mireille Enos in Naeem Khan; Emily Blunt in Carolina Herrera; Maria Menuonos in Blumarine; Paula Patton in Monique Lhuiller

Yellow has been quoted by Neiman Marcus fashion director, Ken Downing, as the new neutral. Nothing says Spring/Summer like the freshness of yellow!

Headbands:

MichelleWilliams in Fred Leighton for Forevermark; Charlize Theron in Cartier; Busy Phillips

Softened retro hairstyles and up-sweeps get an added touch of femininity through the many assortments of headwear available now in the stores.

Big, Bold Earrings:

Julianne Moore in Fred Leigton Emerald Tassels; Julianna Margulies in Large Jade Drop Earrings; Olivia Spencer in Stone Single Drop Earrings

The number one jewelry trend for Spring is the bold ear!  Colored gemstones, single stone or chandelier ears are the one accessory that will add the most fashion to any outfit or dress. Look is newest in sharp contrast, not matching, to the outfit.
