Hi, Francene from the blog “Choo’s and Fashion Doo’s”, here again, to chat with My Red Glasses readers about the upcoming Valentine’s Day date night that is upon us.  I know it’s the big Superbowl event this weekend which I’m sure you ladies are all looking forward to… or you are like me and more interested in the half time show. I’m sure Katy Perry won’t disappoint with her extravagant outfits! Then we are finally out of doom and gloom January and into the month of love, February!   This is my favorite time of year; I will be counting down the days to Valentine’s Day and date night with my husband.

Now Valentine’s Day isn’t just about wearing reds and pinks but its fun to incorporate this into our date night outfits! I for one will be embracing the Dinner-Date go to LBD or B & W, Red Killer Heels and bright red lips. Works every time, it’s ageless and classic! What look will you be using for Valentine’s Day… maybe I can assist with a couple of options?

Staying in makes everything a lot easier, no queues, no noise just yourself and your loved one, however sometimes you could find it more of an effort to make the effort! Come out of your comfort zone with edgy metallic or gold jewelry paired with a contrasting slouchy sweater or cute lace dress.  Use pastel shades for your make-up, use highlighters and light pink blushers for that natural look.

Key-Date-Tips: Rent a movie you are both dying to see – or show off your baking skills either separately or together! Bake a beautiful dessert. I am a sucker for Pecan Pie. Another great tip, melt chocolate and dip in Strawberries and Marshmallows, leave in the fridge for a couple of hours. They can be your indulgent later on in the evening. Movies, Popcorn, & Dessert Afterwards

This is a more casual type of date – as we know for some reason it’s always cold in the cinema so whatever you wear make sure you have a complementing wrap. Masculine peg leg trousers are great for movement and comfort. Pair with a sparkly or lace top in a bright colour to contrast the pants. Pair up with killer pumps or in the more active side ballerina pumps would be perfect! As the weather isn’t consistent at the moment you will need to check daily to make that your guide, also.  Keep make-up fun and remember as this could be a more active date there is nothing worse than a shining face! I absolutely can’t live without blotting tissues!

Key-Date-Tips:  I’m sure us ladies are counting down the days for ’50 Shades of Grey’ out on Valentine’s Day. Maybe your other half won’t be as excited…! I love feeling like a teenager and pretending I can bowl (however I always bribe the staff to put up the fenders to help me win!) or TopGolf… you don’t have to be good at Golf to enjoy this place.

For cocktails I love to use this occasion to push my fashion boundaries, my edgier side. I love mixing up maxi-skirts with crop-tops – if you don’t feel as comfortable pulling off this look then wear a strappy top and tuck it in paired with a cute crop jacket. Show off your figure with a  dress, keep the colour plain and experiment with some accessories you wouldn’t usually wear. Statement necklaces are my favorite, you can pick up gorgeous ones from           Ashley Pittman to Kendra Scott or even Zara for some fun pieces!

Key-Date-Tip: My favorite Date-Night cocktail has to be Whiskey, Ginger Beer & Lime with 2 cherries (Just for the Valentine ’s Day love!) Or nothing beats Prosecco & a slice of lemon. Snack, healthy popcorn!

outfit 12Romantic-Dinner-Date

I always over dress for most occasions. It always makes you feel like a million dollars. I like to add colour such as the vibrancy of red in the lips, heels or bag or for Valentine’s Day, why not lots of Red.  Try not to coordinate too much with your outfit and accessories; you want your outfit to look like you haven’t spent the last two weeks planning! Remember when it comes to dinner dates ‘it’s all in the eyes’ reason being your date can only see from the table up!  Use your make-up to express yourself, I love a black Smokey eye but sometimes feel it can be too OTT & harsh so I will usually use brown shades and brown eye liner to create this softer look.

Key-Date-Tip: Visit Hermann Park for a charming”Dinner and a Cruise” for a romantic Valentine’s Day complete with pedal boat rides! On this special day, guests can take in the sunset on the patio overlooking McGovern Lake savoring a three-course meal of picnic-style fare from Pinewood Cafe. Check this out.  Another favorite place in Houston is City Centre, you have everything whether it’s a type of food or places for cocktails plus it always makes me feel like I’m on holiday! Another favorite setting has to be The Grove Downtown – gorgeous fairy lights, like you’re in the middle of nowhere but deep in the heart of the city. The restaurant choices for Valentine’s are so many and range from an elegant night at Tony’s to a more casual evening at one of the many restaurants in our diverse town that offers every ethnicity possible.
