Donna’s Love Affair with New York City Carries On Beautifully for Fall 2015

My very favorite look of the show….layers of knit over slim bottoms

Donna Karan has never made a secret of her love affair with New York, her city!  Is there ever a collection that does not take its inspiration from an element of or idea from this great city?  Well, this season was no exception as she even went far enough as to use its nighttime skyline as the backdrop for her runway show and their colors of black, grey and gold as the primary palette for the collection.

The season’s primary looks were built around her tailoring, of which she is a master. So many great jackets, proportioned from fitted waistline over long slim skirts or trousers.  Her outerwear was magnificent…long haired shearlings, golden colored leather & fur bombers and the modern take on the trench all so memorable to me.  There were of course, some great looks with white poplin shirts as the center focal piece as Donna has always been a designer that knows what women need for the workplace. She then came back in sharp contrast with the two stunny, minimalist black strapless evening gowns. So elegant yet so simple, so Donna!

Below, highlights of many of my favorites from the show…

Front Row Guests at Donna Karan included regulars Susan Sarandon, Bernadette Peters, plus Chrissy Teigen and Coco Rocha

Tony award winner, Bernadette Peters, a constant front row guest at Donna Karan’s shows, was leaving the venue when I stopped her for a quick chat as I knew she had just performed with our Houston Symphony for Valentine’s on Friday the 13th at Jones Hall and this was only Monday afternoon.  I asked her about the performance and what she thought of the Houston Symphony….“They were absolutely marvelous,” said Ms. Peters, but we knew that, didn’t we….it’s one of the best in the country!
