Holiday Whites…the Many Shades of Snow, a Chic Trend for Holiday/Resort Dressing

So you may ask if I have my seasons mixed up? On a day when Texas weather is feeling a little more like summer, do I dare talk about the color of snow?!  Well, I’ve always been a fan of White and now that the “never wear white after Labor Day” taboo has been lifted, it must be noted that one of the hottest (no pun intended) ideas from the Holiday/Resort Runways, arriving in stores now, was the presence of White as the non-color, color choice as a chic approach to holiday dressing. In fact, my memory takes me back to a visit here by Michael Kors (one of my faves, whose chic style is always so apparent) and when he dressed to accompany me to interviews, wore white pants and a black cashmere turtleneck sweater, in late October, specifically to make this point.  It was a few years ago, he was ahead of his time and in fact, his outfit was a point of discussion with all of his interviewers!!!

However, the time is right, so be prepared, consider this a head’s up as you hit the stores in the coming weeks for holiday shopping, there will be a greater presence than we’ve seen in the past of WHITE, as a strong color choice in everything from white jeans (J. Brand’s color is Snow) teamed with fur vests, to office wear to LWD’s (Little White Dresses) and evening gowns for cocktail.

For purposes of this photo gallery, head to toe white is what I have chosen to make my point, however, it must be noted that if you are not ready to go it alone, White is chic-est as a great complement to all neutrals.  White with Black, Nude or Metallics is always very chic and if you are truly a Christmas spirit, then nothing says Holidays more than White with Red. Fur, particularly in lighter shades, also does wonders for “winterizing” white.

Daywear: For the workplace or for the ladies who lunch, even from work, a white suit, pant or skirt, can stand alone or be highlighted with color. Chic-est add-ons being black accessories from gloves to boots/booties.  So you’re a color person, pop it with a bold colored bag against your canvas of white!

Evening: For holiday parties, a cute, flirty white dress such as the feather one shown or mixed with beading, another big look of the season……either short or long, you’re ready to party!

Accessorizing: Yes, you can wear white bags all year long and look new and fresh when popped off a black dress or color of your choice.

So do not be afraid, you can wear White now! If you aren’t exactly sure how to style it best, ask me!  Leave me a comment below or on the Chic Advisory tab of my site and I will gladly help you along the way! If you can’t have snow around you, maybe you just need to make your own!
