Home Again…Some Much Needed Comic Relief For Our Town At The Movies

Home Again_358_fin8Mother/Daughter Duo, famed movie director/producer, Nancy Meyers and her talented daughter, Hallie Meyer-Shyer, joined forces for Hallie’s directing debut….end result, a happy, fun filled movie that is exactly what the doctor ordered for our injured town.

Nothing’s better for what ales us than a break away from it all for just a couple of hours. Having said that, the right elements for release from the world is our favorite movie theater dimly lit, stocked with some movie popcorn and to sit back and just enjoy the big screen and the story that it tells. Nancy Meyers, one of the smartest women I know and a longtime family friend, is the best at making those types of movies that you watch over and over because they just make you feel good. Always so well-written and modern, her hit list includes such films as The Intern, Holiday,(watched more times than I can count!)  It’s Complicated, What Women Want, Father of the Bride I and II and many more.  So it is no surprise that her youngest daughter, Hallie, who grew up in a home of two talented movie-types….both in the business, would have to pick up, if only by osmosis, her share of that very special talent.  Should we say it’s in her DNA , probably so or use the cliché of ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’.  Whatever, Nancy’s talent has definitely shown through in daughter, Hallie.  Her first movie to have written and directed on her own is here and I can’t wait to see it.   To steal the closing and very favorable review by the Houston Chronicle today….“Meyers-Shyer may have gotten it from her Mama, but the point-of-view is all hers!

It just hit the theaters, nationwide Friday, September 8 and I must say that I haven’t seen it yet. It’s hard to find movie time right now with all going on in our city. However, I do know enough about Meyers movies and I have watched trailers many times and I just know it will be great and just what I need right now to make myself and so many of my favorite peeps smile again.

Synopsis

HOME AGAIN stars Reese Witherspoon (“Big Little Lies,” Wild, Walk The Line, Sweet Home Alabama) as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband, (Michael Sheen), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance comes to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand. HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create.
