Kimonos to Wear Now and Later…..adding Fashion Style and Edginess to Your Wardrobe

It’s just about that time of the year where our transitional pieces are being pushed to the front of the closet. Julie here today, and I know it’s still hot here in Houston, but this is when it’s fun to start thinking, even just slightly, about fall fashion. And before we dive fully into our favorite fashion season, there’s a transitional period of time in the fashion world, such as some extra layers, but not too many; booties, but not knee high styles just yet.

And one item that can easily be worn in both summer and fall, but also makes the perfect transitional fashion piece that can add a touch of edginess as an outfit completer, is none other than the kimono. And we are currently loving kimonos.

By definition, a kimono is a long, loose robe with wide sleeves and tied with a sash, originally worn as a formal garment in Japan. And it’s such a beautiful look!

The great thing about kimonos is that they can be worn over a bathing suit during the hot months, but as it gets cooler you can easily wear it over other layers, paired with jeans, boots, and other fall accessories. They come in all colors, prints, solid, embroidered, lace, velvet, satin, long short, and everything in between.

One of my favorite ways to wear a kimono is with a little white tee and distressed denim with booties. I throw mine over everything, though. I wear them over dresses, shorts, skirts, you name it. Kimonos are actually incredibly versatile, believe it or not!

Below we’ve rounded up 10 great ways to wear kimonos, pulled straight from the streets. And then you’ll see some of our favorite kimonos you can buy right here, right now, from MRG. As well, Roz was recently at Launch (which you’ve read about here), and she fell in love with the kimonos from Kimono Zulu, (our feature) which really spiked our interest in this category and now I feel like I’m seeing them on lots of fashion savvy gals.  So be sure to check those out here.
