With the temperatures starting to drop, it’s time to bid summer adieu…but not just with your wardrobe. The days are getting shorter and shorter, and you will likely be spending more time inside. Tis the season to make your home cozy! It’s Alyssa here chatting with you about my best tips to warm your home up, even when it’s cold outside.

1. Chunky Throws

There’s nothing better than snuggling in with a blanket wrapped around you when the temperature drops. Even on the warmest days of summer, I can’t curl up in my chair without a blanket! I have at least five in my living room alone (I’m thinking I need this blanket from Urban Outfitters to complete my collection). I even go so far as opening up a window to bring the cool air in so that I can get even more wrapped up!

2. Candles

The glow of a candle instantly creates a warm and cozy atmosphere! Candles are one of the most simple (and affordable) ways to update your home seasonally – go for scents like vanilla, spruce, cinnamon, or classic pumpkin. I recently bought this Amber and Moss candle from Madewell and I will be burning it all fall!

3. Change up your bedding.

Your bed is likely the focus in your bedroom, so changing it up will have a huge impact. It’s all about layering and swapping dark colors for light in the fall. Add a few extra pillows, bring out your quilt, or add a throw to the end of your bed. For colors, go for earthy tones like greys and browns, or jewel tones like plum and navy.

 4. “Fall-ify” your florals.

Bring the fall colors inside with your floral arrangements! Some great options to put in your home are begonias, mums, chrysanthemums, and pansies (these are perennials that don’t need a lot of sunlight). If you prefer greenery, go for succulents, spider plants, or even herbs that you can use to cook later. Plants and flowers add life to a space, and a natural element that makes a room feel even more inviting!

5. Create a Nook

This can be any kind of nook – a reading nook, sleeping nook, or just a comfy chair.  Carve out a space just for you to serve as a little retreat where you can relax and escape. Curl up with a blanket and surround yourself with the things you love (my nook includes a cup of coffee, my cat, and supplies to do calligraphy)!

6. Cook!

Not only will your kitchen get nice and toasty, but your whole house will smell amazing too! I am dying to try this recipe for Lasagna Soup – it’s the perfect recipe for a day when you’re just relaxing at home.
