Chic Find: Lazy Wear for Lazy Days

When our town's Laurann Claridge and sis, Liz King started their lingerie concept for Claridge+King, it was built around the His/Her shirt....a man's classic woven shirt, redefined for a woman's body. Their savvy appeal was their focus on looking sexy in your man's shirt?!!! Well, they were very successful with that item....every chic gal in town just had to have one!

Chic Happening: Another SMASH!

One of the chic-est in-again foods around these days are tasty BURGERS in all sizes! 
If you haven't tried a Smashburger yet or tasted their scrumptuous rosemary/olive oil French Fries, then you must indulge, and that's about to get easier for you to do just that.  These yummy burgers are actually "smashed" on the grill, making for exceptional flavor. The debut of these Colorado-based burgers was last December in Med.Center/Reliant area.  The good news here is that they are planning an expansion to many Houston neighborhoods starting this July. So, your kids think that they are too cool for school?!.......well here is just the right match for them. It's called ETICOOL School, the brainchild of our town's renowned Image Consultant, Helen Perry, who has always known that nothing makes for a bad image more than bad manners. So, she has decided to start young and teach our children what it takes to have good manners and knowing Helen, make it fun while they're learning it!

Helen will be at Tony's teaching luncheon manners to the little ones, while they feast on a 3-course Tony's lunch special.........not a bad life, these kids of ours!

I must say that this is not a complete trend recap of London fashion.....that would come from those lucky few that cover the London runways.....this is simply a sampling as I saw it through myredglasses, as I traveled the streets and shops of London......
*COLOR.....saw lots in store, not on the street; Bold, Hot Colors in solids and prints were the summertime choices in the stores.RED, and shades of, a dominant color idea for Fall was very prevalent at the high-street designer boutiques.

*DOMINANT THEMES......Feminine, Shine, Global/Bohemian and Hot Mod Color!

*DETAILS.....(trim on apparel and in accessories)

**Shine......lots of satin and shine for day and night; Beads galore as trim & all-over

Even if you are an accidental NBA follower, as I am, you know that this is their time.  The NBA Championship Finals are on the small screen now and there are two MAGIC stars.  The Orlando MAGIC that are battling the L.A. CHIC FINDS.......Fashion News from London-town!

LONDON fashion, sites and nightlife were so fantastic that if I didn't look so Italian, I could possibly become a BRIT? (probably not?!)..........

Let me share with you some HIGHLIGHTS of what I saw.......(I have so much info, but don't want to put your blackberries on overload, so we'll take it in phases)

First, WHERE to shop......
OXFORD CIRCLE.......the busiest spot in town; main reason: TOP SHOP, Kate Moss's influences have mad this THE HOT SPOT.......I must say, there was so much creativity in one place! I was delirious with excitement here. URBAN OUTFITTERS, H&M and ZARA.......makes this the spot for the young and the young at heart/spirit to be.

HIGH STREET/LUXURY SHOPPING.......Oxford St.(Selfridges.....my favorite big store, going thru it's 100th anniversary and much special product.....look for YELLOW!) Bond St. for all the best of the big designers; a must! Miu Miu did a display of amazing RED Shoes and I tried them all! Mount St. in Mayfair. Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Sloane St. in Knightsbridge. Also, King's Road and Kensington High Street in Kensington.

ANTIQUE & OUTDOOR MARKETS......PORTOBELLO ROAD open air markets on Saturday mornings(thank you, Bill Stubbs!)was delightful and endless; also CAMDEN MARKET on week-ends and WESTBOURNE GROVE in Nottinghill had the most amazing foodstore/restaurant, DAYLESFORD ORGANIC....exquisite! Cannot forget COVET GARDEN where Eliza Doolittle worked every bloody morning....it's the old flower markets, full of shops and wonderful opera singers strolling around.

UNIQUE/ALTERNATIVE SHOPPING......Carnaby Street still lives on. Specialty shops such as OCTUPUS that takes everyday items and gives them a whimsical, fun treatment(bought lots here!), MUJI (thanks, Tina), a Japanese concept store with many great items at great prices.

London......I'm on my way!

I can't believe that it's finally here, but we are leaving today for London and I am so excited. It has been far too long since I've been to this great city! I am all packed with my planning books( ), my mags (British Vogue, Modern Luxury (this month had some great info on London hoods!), my camera........got to take lots of street pics and of course, my charge cards.....hear the pound is doing well?!

Of course, I'm heading to Oxford Street, Bond Street and catch all of the biggies like Top Shop, Harrod's, Selfridge's, Harvey Nichols and even Boots and more I'm sure. However, I'm most excited about discovering lots of hidden treasures in the small, quaint out-of-the way places that I hope to just happen upon.

Here is a collection that fits the description of non-IT-bag status but alot of New Yorkers are carrying them or certainly want to, just as if?! This event is for those who are looking for what's next and in need of great pieces that will leave your friends wondering. Chelsea Dryer, the force behind the retail venture "77th Street", is at it again, bringing together designers from all over the country to display their wares for one day only. Each of these designers is new, unique, and not littered across boutiques in town. This looks to be a great opportunity for anyone who truly loves fashion. In addition, a portion of all proceeds from each designer will go to benefit the charity of YOUR choice!

Student Fashion Show at River Oaks Theatre to benefit
Pink Ribbon Project

High School student designers from the Houston area will showcase their latest fashion designs on the catwalk at the River Oaks Theatre on April 30, 2009 at the 2nd annual
Tickle Me Pink: The Masquerade fashion show.  Tickets for this charitable event will be sold at the door for $10.  All proceeds from the event will benefit Pink Ribbons Project, the
Houston-based, arts-based breast cancer organization.
Tickle Me Pink is a totally student-run event.......models, designers, DJs and graphic designers
all come from the High School ranks.  Zoe Patterson, a Junior at Lamar High School (go Lamar!) is the inspiration behind the project.
At the party after there will be silent auction, raffle and handmade pieces of art all available for purchase.

The designer has developed the Freedom Project, where product sales help rescue women and children from oppressive environments worldwide and are currently very active in Nepal and Cambodia. MELISSA BORRELL DESIGNS!

Occassionally, you see somethig that strikes you as unique, creative, special!  Those were the descriptives going through my mind as I recently viewed the extensive collection by jewelry designer, MELISSA BORRELL.  This self-taught jewelry designer, who opened a studio in San Francisco in 1999 and then headed south to Houston after completing her RISD degree in 2005.......has a unique approach to design that is clearly her own.

Her distinctive jewelry collections include her Pop-Out Jewelry, which I first viewed and purchased at Kuhl-Linscomb last year.  This special cut-out metal jewelry that comes on a form that you "pop-out" to make a necklace, earring, etc........is all Melissa and can be found at local Museum Shops here, Kuhl-linscomb, and her Studio for a complete look at her total collection plus some!                                                                        (

Another trademark collection for Melissa that I loved was her Bubble Jewelry(not pictured).  These metal circles are mounted in a random design to resemble those liquid blow bubbles as they lightly release from your wand!  Such fun to see all of her many styles.......it is amazing to see what she can do with metal......photos do not do them justice.......a trip by her studio is a must, she's usually there but it's best if you call for an appointment and see the treat that is in store for you!
