The Met Gala….Fashion’s Biggest Night

The first Monday in May, has become known in the fashion world as being synonymous with Fashion’s biggest and most over-the-top night…..the Oscars of the East Coast as it has been called.  The Met Gala is always an evening where the A+list celebrities must make the cut for the special evening that is always tied to an opening of a major fashion exhibition at the museum.  This year’s theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” was  a night that lent itself to some of the more outrageous and intriguing of fashion designs. As you can imagine (or maybe not?) the looks went from the more extreme ‘costumey’ approach to the subtle and sophisticated.  The dress code for the evening was “Sunday Best”, which said it all.  It should also be noted that the museum exhibit itself, has been called spectacular and is something that Andrew Bolton, head curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute and Anna Wintour have been working with the Vatican on for several years.

Below I have given you only a small sampling of both extremes….where even within the co-chairs, Amal Clooney, Rihana, Donatella Versace and Anna Wintour, you will see quite an array of fashion.  One of my favorites of the evening was Anna Wintour, who in Chanel Haute Couture has never looked more elegant. Also some of my favorites of the night were Jennifer Lopez who seems to win this award show every year to Blake Lively, Amal Clooney, Donatella, Kate Bosworth and even the Kardashian/Jenner sisters, Kim and Kendall who looked fashionably understated. On the kitchy, yet fun side of the evening, was of course, Rihana and Katy Perry, another fashion celebrity who had to arrive in a convertible because her angel’s wings would not fit in a car!!
