Beth here and as a New Jersey transplant, it took more than a few years for me to catch on to just what a big deal the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is. Rodeo season is officially here again and that means donning your best Western Wear and Rodeo fashion. To help bring out your inner cowgirl, here’s our rundown of what to wear, where to get it and what’s trending.

As you would imagine, Houston has many local retailers that are ready and waiting to help you find the perfect Rodeo Fashion, many of which we told you about in our last  post. However for those of you who like the comfort of your own couch for purchasing your rodeo gear this is for you.

Jeans have a long history with Western Wear, and a pair of boot cut jeans have typically been a requirement for Rodeo time. Nowadays a bevy of jeans styles are considered perfect for Rodeo, whether skinny, flare, embellished or crop. Here’s some of our favorite places around town to get your denim fix just in time.

AG Jeans Houstonians hit the jackpot when jean aficionado Adriano Goldschmied finally came to Houston with their standalone store at The Galleria.  Their most versatile boot cut, The Angel is a sure fire win for every figure.

7 For All Mankind Also a standalone in The Galleria, their current selection offers quite a few boot cut, skinny and straight leg options that work great with boots.

Intermix East Coasters were thrilled when this New York staple hit Houston’s River Oaks Shopping District. While they carry quite a few high end denims, their Must-Have Denim collection is to die for.

If none of these stores satisfy your jeans cravings, Saks Fifth AvenueNeiman Marcus and Tootsies all have some swoon worthy denim shops.

The quintessential fashion component of Rodeo season, every girl needs a great pair of cowboy boots (check out our previous feature on them). If you don’t already own a pair, there are some things you need to consider before buying. Toe shape: pointed, round or square. Boot height: ankle, mid-rise or high-rise. Boot heel: flat, low or fashion heel. Sounds easy right? Well it’s not as we haven’t even gotten to materials yet! Luckily Houston has some really great locations to help you put your best boot forward for Rodeo.

Republic Boot Co. Touting 100% Texan boots, this local bootmaker has made custom boots for the likes of John Wayne and Steve McQueen. Republic is by appointment only and carries Lane Boots, Nocona and Black Star in addition to their own brand.

Lucchese No boot list would be complete without Lucchese Bootmaker. While it might be a splurge item, sliding your feet into a pair of their beautifully crafted boots is worth every penny. Not to mention, their exquisitely decorated Highland Village store is almost worth the visit alone.

Pinto Ranch A Texas staple and all around one stop shop for your Western Wear fix, Pinto Ranch has entire section of their website devoted to Rodeo Season with everything from your feet to your head. Just in case you need a little help on what to wear this season, Pinto also has a Lifestyle & Fashion blog, currently featuring an entry on How to Dress Your Western Best.

And if you want to get a head start on next year’s pair both Parker Custom Boots and Maida’s Custom Footwear offer patrons a wide variety of locally made custom boot wear.

The right shirt, skirt or accessory can turn your so-so Rodeo outfit into your one and only Rodeo wear. For jewelry we are currently having a love affair with Christina Greene’s Rodeo Wear collection of hat bands and badge holders. Local favorite Jubilee over in the Heights is also stocked full of trendy looks right now to get you in the cowgirl spirit.

So now that you’ve got the shopping covered, just in case you are still on the proverbial fence, the folks over at Refinery 29 have some outside the box ideas for a fresh modern take on the Western Wear trend and as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, you can always peruse the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for some inspiration.
