How to Save Broken or Old Makeup

fix-broken-eye-shadow-before-and-after

We’ve all been there before. We’re in our bathroom and we drop our brand new powder (or eye shadow, blush, etc) compact on the tile floor by accident, and it cracks and we want to run to throw it away because there’s no point to keep it, right? Well, before you do that, there are a few quick fixes, which we learned about in Free People’s blog post here, and had to share them with you.

If you’d like to get it back to a compact powder, grab rubbing alcohol and a spoon. Pour just enough alcohol so it becomes a paste. Stir, flatten with a spoon, and let it sit overnight.

If you’d like to turn it into a lip gloss, grab a small travel jar. Grind up the broken powder until it is fine. Add coconut oil, cocoa butter, and Vaseline.

You can also turn certain items, such as broken eye shadow or blush, into a nail polish by grinding up broken eye shadow (or whatever you might be using) and pouring it into a jar of clear nail polish.

Finally, if you’d like to save your dried up lipstick or mascara, simply place it into a hot cup of water, let it sit, and reuse. Of course, mascara should be replaced after 3 months so don’t do this if it’s been past that time.
