It’s that time of year, sweltering temps are unavoidable, and this year it appears to not be just a Texas problem…it’s everywhere.  So the challenge is this:  how do you look chic, fun and fashionable while avoiding melting in the summer heat?  Also, in Houston, the most air conditioned city in the world, you have an added issue. How to survive outdoors without freezing indoors?

We’ve taken a look at your summertime’s activities and are trying to offer some Chic Sheet  reminder tips that make survival of the fittest, not so challenging for the next six weeks.  I know it’s hotter this year, but my husband says I say that every year…could that be true, but it’s not even August yet?!

Here it is……

VACATIONING…..Let’s hope you’re getting some time away!

Styling tips: Travel light with plenty of light colored, cool pieces with multi-use that work together; keep hair and make-up cool and simple (ponytails and braids are both chic and cool); bare dressing works most of the time (reminder: travelling abroad, you need an over-pinning for those church tours); also, if you cherish the right to bare arms, tone them up and please bring lots of hats and  sunscreens; remember, anti-aging is a life-long process.

CASUAL DRESSING….Out & about on hot summer days & nights

Styling tips: lunch meetings can be a challenge, keep it light and take a bright cardigan for the shoulders in freezing restaurants; out-to-dinner, keep it cool, casual…denim can be warm but you’ll wear them anyway (white & newest colors best) so make the top cool, chic shorts dressing acceptable most places; dresses and maxi dressing a fun way to take it up a notch and still be coolest you can be!

WEDDINGS, SPECIAL OCCASIONS….Lots of summertime weddings

Styling tips: Wear short as much as possible; glitz for night and cute, simple frocks for day; lots of color adds to the celebration, navy a black alternative and keep it bare and/or sleeveless; here a wrap nearby is a must have.

WORKPLACE…..How to handle offices that can be 30 degrees cooler than outside & take you out for a fun summer evening

Styling tips: temperature differences unavoidable; keep a jacket or cardigan at your office, works best for me, so that I can bare the trip there; dressing down is o.k. in most places and bare those legs…no hosiery please, it makes me warm to think of it?! Sandals are acceptable but pedis are a must; like to go out from work…think flexibility; accessory changes can make any transition happen; dresses & skirts coolest; blouses are having a comeback and Equipment blouses in sleeveless or with sleeves are light enough to be the chic-est new top of choice…goes with everything from shorts to jeans to skirts!  Another purchase tip:  J.Crew cardigans, available in store and online in every imaginable color.  These two additions will make life a little more bearable!

So the survival challenge is upon us…the bright side, sales are a plenty, (see Chic Deals) accessories can make the simplest summer outfit ever-so-chic and before you know it it will be September and then the next fashion challenge…how to dress like Fall when it’s 100 degrees outside.  We’ll be there to help you with that real soon!
