If you are one of those who suffers from the “fear of more xmas sweaters, socks, PJ’s, men’s neck ties, holiday decor or other “classic gifts” that have filled your closet in past holidays we are sure you let it be known that gift cards or even cold-hard-cash was number one on your wish list this holiday. Well, your time is now to shop till you drop for what YOU WANT and what YOU NEED, at just the PRICE YOU WANT IT! One of the beauties of shopping for others, that consumes all of your pre-holiday hours, is that you get great browsing time for yourself and can go back now and make it all about you!  Shop for those things that you’ve had your eye on but are now at prices that are a fraction of what they were.

So before we give you our curated list of great sales at great places to shop,(starting LOCAL),  here are just a few “genius points” that I have practiced over the years to make sure that those bucks, burning a whole in my pocketbook, are spent to their maximum potential!

TOP TEN SHOPPING TIPS FOR POST-HOLIDAY SALES…

1.    Winter/Holiday Motif merch. is what the stores are most desperate to get rid of to make way for new inventory.  Buy those Xmas sweaters (shhhh!, we won’t tell anyone), holiday glitz, aplenty in stores right now as a fashion trend so right for NYE, holiday home decor,  fashion accessories/jewelry, sweaters, coats and winter accessories are at the best prices. Buy now, invest in storage containers and put them away for next year!

2.    Beware of buying random….unless it’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, stay away from that top that goes with nothing in your closet or the dress that’s really not you….guess what, it probably isn’t and will make it to resell before you can say, More Than You Can Imagine!

3.    Think of “closet additions”….what do you need replenished in your closet? The white shirt that’s looking dingy or the newer skinny black jeans that you’ve wanted to have but don’t. Yes, another black turtleneck……You get it, right!?

4.    Social Occasion or evening wear and/or accessories….like to buy high-end but pay wisely….now is a great time!  Lots of glitz at great prices, maybe just in time for NYE…or better yet, check after the New Year and you will find even better pricing.

5.    Basics in neutral colors; ala Gap, J. Crew, Neiman Marcus cashmere or anyone; always need these multi-use items as the perfect top for jeans or for skirts for work; buy long-sleeve now, biggest savings!

6.    Shoe-wise….buy Booties or this year’s hottie, Tall Boots, a wardrobe of these styles are closet must-haves…casual, dressy, open-toe or closed, you need them all as boots are here to stay!

7.    Pick-up small home gift items; drop into stores like Kuhl-Linscomb, Neiman Marcus, Cotton Club, A Bientot, Tootsies, Events, to just name a few…..great hostess gifts to have year-round!

8.    Athletic wear NOW…..we used to say at Foley’s that January was Christmas for the athletic/fitness department; biggest month of the year for buying all the right gear to get in shape NOW; don’t just buy it…use it!  Sign up for classes, book a trainer, use your Whole Foods  card to buy healthy…..get ready to get in shape!

9.   Speaking of a healthy body, how about a healthy mind….de-stress and USE those Spa, Massage and Facial Gift cards and refresh for the New Year.

10.  Lastly, pay it forward and think about the Spring season that is moments away.  Some trends for Spring that you may start seeing in the store or find remnants of are bright colors, fashion sneakers, statement earrings, stackable bracelets of all kinds ….and anything animal still going strong, love it!
