Some evenings in Houston just feel right… and The Social Book’s 2026 Houston Treasures Awards Gala was one of them. Held at the gorgeous new Doc’s Houston Jazz Club, the night brought together so many familiar faces, longtime supporters, and truly deserving honorees for an evening that felt celebratory, meaningful, and very Houston.
With the theme “…and All That Jazz,” Doc’s set the perfect tone. Already one of the most talked-about spots in town, the space was beautifully dressed for the holidays and buzzing with energy as guests arrived ready to celebrate this year’s Houston Treasures.
Honoring Those Who Give So Much
If you’ve been around Houston philanthropy for any length of time, you know The Social Book. Now celebrating its 30th year, it has long been the trusted guide to charitable and social events across the city. Created by Warner Roberts, the Houston Treasures Awards recognizes individuals and couples who have made a lasting impact through their generosity, leadership, and dedication to our community.
Because my special friends were honored this year…….

This year’s honorees were a wonderful mix of familiar and inspiring names — people who truly give back in meaningful ways.
The 2026 Houston Treasures included:
Nicole & Benny Agosto, Jr., Nancy Ames & Danny Ward, Susan Christian & Laura Spanjian, Marilu Garza, Janet Gurwitch, Melissa Juneau, Sippi & Ajay Khurana, Robin & Danny Klaes, Larry Martin, Jo Ann Petersen, Joy Sewing, and Lisa & Jerry Simon.
Also celebrated were the Social Book’s 5th Class of Legendary Houston Treasures by recognizing the extraordinary accomplishments of Deborah Duncan, Betty Hrncir and husband and wife team Laura and Dave Ward, who unfortunately passed away just prior to the event. They will be honored at a later date and a moment of silence was observed for the fallen “Voice of Houston.”
Throughout the evening, beautifully produced video tributes (courtesy of Firefox Video) shared the stories behind each honoree, followed by heartfelt moments on stage that reminded everyone why these awards matter so much.
A Perfect Setting at Doc’s
Let’s talk about the venue — because Doc’s Houston Jazz Club truly delivered. Guests were treated to a seated, four-course dinner that was as thoughtful as it was delicious, paired with impeccable service and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger.
And then there was the music. A fantastic 12-piece jazz ensemble, complete with eight horns, filled the room with classic jazz standards and holiday favorites, giving the evening its rhythm and soul.
Dessert was a showstopper in every sense: a green-and-gold cake topped with a towering fondant saxophone — a fitting nod to both the theme and the incredible space Doc Watkins has created.
Style, Flowers, and a Holiday Glow
The décor set the mood beautifully. With jewel tones of emerald green, gold, and white, the room felt festive yet elegant. Flowers by Nino and EB, Inc. created lush arrangements featuring roses, orchids, and hydrangeas sourced from around the world, while thoughtful details like Gatsby-inspired napkin rings added a touch of whimsy.
Behind the stage, a large LED screen displayed past Houston Treasures honorees from the last 20 years — a quiet but powerful reminder of just how much good has been done in this city.
Giving Back, Always
In true Social Book fashion, the evening also included a toy drive benefiting The Mission of Yahweh, supporting women and children in need. It was a meaningful reminder that at the heart of all the celebration is Houston’s commitment to caring for one another.
A Night That Felt Like Houston
As the evening wrapped up and guests headed out into the night, there was that familiar feeling — gratitude, pride, and a sense of connection that makes Houston so special.
Congratulations to The Social Book, Warner Roberts, and all of the 2026 Houston Treasures honorees. It was a beautiful night filled with music, generosity, and the kind of people who make this city what it is.
