One of Houston’s most colorful and wonderfully creative traditions is gearing up once again! The 39th Annual Houston Art Car Parade Weekend returns April 9–12, transforming our city streets into a rolling celebration of imagination, creativity, and community.
Produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, the beloved event culminates with the iconic Houston Art Car Parade on Saturday, April 11. Each year, more than 250 wildly inventive, one-of-a-kind art cars take to the streets, drawing over 315,000 spectators and making it the largest free cultural event in Houston.
A Houston Tradition Like No Other
For nearly four decades, the Art Car Parade has proven that art doesn’t just belong in galleries — sometimes it belongs on wheels! What started in the mid-1980s as a small gathering of creative spirits has grown into the largest celebration of art cars in the world.
During the four-day festival, Houston becomes a vibrant canvas filled with color, creativity, and plenty of personality. Professional artists, schools, and everyday creators transform ordinary vehicles into moving masterpieces, each one more imaginative than the last.
This Year’s Grand Marshals

Leading the parade this year are two well-known Houstonians representing pillars of the city’s culture: sports and music. Houston soccer legend Brian Ching will serve as one of the 2026 Grand Marshals. A founding player of the Houston Dynamo, Ching spent eight of his 12 Major League Soccer seasons in Houston and remains the team’s all-time leading scorer. He also represented the U.S. Men’s National Team for eight years and continues to give back to the community through philanthropic initiatives like Ching’s Champions and The House That Ching Built.
Joining him is Grammy Award-winning musician Kam Franklin, the powerhouse frontwoman of Houston band The Suffers. A champion of Houston’s vibrant music scene, Franklin has taken the city’s sound to national television and international stages. Earlier this year she received a Grammy for her appearance on A Tribute to the King of Zydeco, honoring legendary musician Clifton Chenier.

Both honorees have long supported Houston’s arts and community initiatives, making them fitting ambassadors for this uniquely Houston celebration.
Spotlight on the 2026 Featured Artist
Also highlighted this year is visual artist Phillip Pyle II, named the 2026 Featured Artist. Known for his bold graphic compositions and layered storytelling, Pyle explores themes of race and popular culture through graphic design, photography, and visual art. His fearless creative voice reflects the same spirit of originality that has defined the Art Car movement for decades.
How to Experience the Parade
One of the best parts of the Art Car Parade is that it remains free and open to the public, allowing everyone in Houston to join the celebration.
For those looking for a more elevated experience, the event’s official fundraiser, VIPit, offers reserved seating, complimentary food and beverages from Houston favorites, private restrooms, and premium parade views. Proceeds support year-round programming from the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, including Art Cars in Schools, which brings hands-on creative education into classrooms across the region.
