Elizabeth Anthony found the perfect evening for their ‘al fresco’ fashion show highlighting their guest and one of the hottest designers around these days, Christian Siriano and his perfect “Isle of Capri” Spring/Summer 2017 Collection
Christian Siriano was back in town for his second visit this year to luxury ladies boutique Elizabeth Anthony located here in Uptown Park, Houston. I got ‘hooked’ on him back in March (see MRG interview here) and since then have followed this guy who has been all over the fashion news with his many, many accomplishments in this stellar year that he has been having.
Dubbed by Elle Magazine as the ‘New King of Old School Glamour’, Siriano has had quite a year. He has dressed just about every celebrity of the entertainment world from Sarah Jessica Parker to Heidi Klum, to Carrie Underwood and even fashion’s own, Victoria Beckham. In fact, this year People magazine did a story on Siriano as the man who dressed the most celebs for the Emmy awards, nine in total. However, nothing was a bigger kudos for the designer than the beautiful bold blue dress that he designed for FLOTUS, Michelle Obama for her memorable speech at the Democratic National Convention.
A moment of great pride and due recognition came from the designer and his quest to dress ALL WOMEN, without reservation to ethnicity or size. He was the designer that came to the rescue of SNL actress, Leslie Jones, who could find no one to designer for her curvy figure. This evolved into Siriano’s NYFW Runway Show where he featured five plus size models, something that the designer says made him feel great, that he could dress for everyone from his family to the gals in his office!
When the designer was asked why Houston, twice in one year, his response was that he loved dressing Houston women. He found them to be fashion-forward, more of a risk taker that was interested not just in basics but more unique styling. They also love event dressing which is something that Siriano does so well.
Christian Siriano has proven that he has evolved into quite the businessman….he said to me he had had enough of the ‘starving artist’ and wanted to move head first into business and that is exactly what he has done. Aside from his Designer Collection which can be found regularly at Elizabeth Anthony, his collaborations include: Lane Bryant for plus size clothing; Bed Bath & Beyond for bedding; Payless for shoes; Fragrance for Kohl’s; Eyewear for Modo; and lastly an advanced contemporary priced vegan Handbag collection that is found in many department stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Saks, Lord & Taylor to name a few.
