Jane Birkin in Controversy with Hermés Over Crocodile Version of Infamous Namesake Bag

3JF_6677_lIs this, the ultimate luxury accessory item being scratched off my bucket list, as we speak?  It’s namesake, Jane Birkin, is demanding that Hermes remove her name from this bag…..how will this controversy end?!

It’s not exactly the newest news that just a couple of weeks ago, British Vogue reported a statement from PETA that the infamous British singer and actress, Jane Birkin, has demanded that her name be removed from the crocodile version of this famous bag.  This bag designed nearly 30 years ago as a collaboration between Hermes and Ms. Birkin, carries a price tag in the croco version of $30,000+ and has remained a favorite of celebs and socialites for years.  Speaking of years, there are many that will wait months and even years on a wait list just to get one of these bags.

It must be noted that what has started this controversy is that Ms.Birkin learned of disturbing practices that surfaced through a PETA investigation of an alligator factory where bothersome things were being done to the alligators used in its production……in of all places, here in Winnie, Texas, which sends skins to Hermés-owned tanneries.

It remains to be seen as to how this will end?!  I only know that, on a personal note, I have quite a ‘bucket list’, which is not made up of a lot of things……more like places to see and things to share with my family but the one material thing that I have always said was near  the top of that list was a Birkin Bag, so I am most anxious to keep abreast of this controversy. I am sure that Hermés and Ms. Birkin, whose relationship has been very solid and very long, will work this out and it can remain on my list……for a maybe someday?!
