Today, you are hearing from our newest intern at My Red Glasses, Sarah Stukalin, an incoming senior student at Kinkaid High School who is joining us for a few weeks to have a taste of writing for the blogger world.  I think you’ll agree when you read this that ‘the lady has a flair’ as she write about a cool store in Montrose that is a fave of hers! Now to hear from Sarah…….

Tucked away in a sea of thrift stores and restaurants is Merchant and Market: a hidden Montrose gem that takes a fresh spin on classic fashion.

Walking into the storefront is like strolling through a flea market. Modern art decorates the walls, and trendy furniture creates the perfect vibe for an upscale market. Turn the corner and you’ll find two vintage racks of styles ranging from the Jazz Age to the Great Depression. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of their shop is not just the clothing, but what they can do with it.

Merchant and Market runs their shop with the motto of “you name it, we customize it”. Their resident artist, Gino Vian, can customize anything from leather to furniture, murals and more. “All of the pieces in the store are super unique and on trend. My favorite items by far are the custom denim jackets”, says one store goer.

Bring in your denim or purchase a jacket from the store and have it painted or sequined any way you like.

In addition to vending one-of-a-kind items, the store offers classes in calligraphy, and a tutorial on do-it-yourself customizing with their clients.

A visit to Montrose is incomplete without a trip to Merchant and Market. Whether you stop in for a quick look, or to have a painting commissioned, it is sure to be a worthwhile visit!
