“The Great American Songbook 2…the next generation of the Songbook”

For my brother, Steve, I have watched his 11th CD take on a life of its own as he meticulously and with much passion in his heart, developed his own very personal tribute to many of the people that were to become his closest lifelong friends and collaborators, as he began his career in NYC in the 60’s. What a golden time that was for music as the famed Brill Building became  the laboratory for such great songwriting teams as Carol King/Gerry Goffin, Bary Mann & Cynthia Weil, Burt Bacharach/Hal David, Neil Sedaka, Leiber & Stroller and others. (I am excited for this weekend to be seeing “Beautiful”, the Broadway story of Carole King that has many of these players from this famous building and era, included!)

Aside from Steve’s personal involvement with many of these songs when they were being created, one thing that sets it apart from other tribute albums is the spirited guest vocal appearances from many of the great songwriter/artist friends of his that represent this generation. Barry Mann,  Neil Sedaka, Bill Medley and Steve’s closest collaborator of that era, Houston native, B.J. Thomas as they join voices on “Rock n Roll Lullaby,” one of my all time favorite BJ /Mann/Weill collaborations. Also, it should be noted that vocal talent definitely runs on Steve’s side of the family…..he is accompanied on several background vocals by my uber-talented neice, Lauryn Tyrell…can’t be more personal of a tribute than that!

I can only encourage so many of you that have followed Steve from Houston to the larger music scene that has become his lifelong career and passion to tune it to this CD. It’s guaranteed to have you reliving  so many of the great songs that we have all  loved for years.  Stop and  listen and make a purchase right here to have in your car (puts me in a great mood to be able to drive along singing and actually know every word!)

Steve partners w/music legend Bill Medley to Sing Title Song for C.D. release…Intro in Steve’s own words

Last night, my friend and former partner, Barry Mann, and his wife, Cynthia Weil, were honored by the Grammys with the 2015 Trustee’s Award. Their iconic song, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” was featured during the Grammy telecast. Tomorrow I am releasing my new album, “That Lovin’ Feeling,” which is a tribute to the great songwriting teams of that era. I am honored that one of the original Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley, joined me for my version.

  1. As a millennial, it is great to hear the songs of the past sung by the stars of the present. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the cd!

  2. Awesome video, Roz!! This may be Steve’s best album yet. Loved seeing Bill Medley and hearing his beautiful, resonant voice blending with your brother’s. I’m buying this for sure!!
