Diving into Denim

Feature-Denim-

Synonymous with the fall season would have to be denim. I know, it’s still 100 degrees outside here in Houston, and it doesn’t feel like fall is even close to the horizon, but we can certainly still get in the mindset of cooler temperatures, cozy knit sweaters, layering upon layering, and beautiful boots. Denim is that one thing that is always a big topic when summer starts to wind down. Year after year, denim is all the rage. Yesterday TOOTSIES hosted a breakfast for fashion bloggers to go over all the upcoming fall trends. A major part of the presentation was denim. Denim, denim, denim. Timely as ever, Roz and I are here to break down the denim trends for you for the months ahead.

Dark washes are in for fall. From dark blues to grey and charcoal and even black, deeper hues are where it’s at. From different fabrics, such as leather, sateen, and velvet, to fitted, flare, and boyfriend, there are tons of choices. To go along with your denim bottoms, rocker chic and military influences are big for fall, and can even be done with some added accessories. If you tend to stick to the same old denim season after season, this is the time to step out of your comfort zone. Try the boyfriend, wear denim with denim, and get a rocking pair of coated jeans. Here’s to hoping fall is right around the corner.

Skinny jeans are always in style, no matter the time of year and for Fall are the number one look.   Tuck them into boots or wear them with pumps, they work either way. Flare jeans go in and out of style, but they are currently making a come back again for Fall.

Sprucing up your standard old jeans a bit, go for a suede or leather sheen pair that will jazz up any outfit. You can also try the ever so popular coated denim, which will take your jeans to a whole new level by giving you the look of leather at a lesser price tag. A new favorite is the pull-on, elastic waist skinny jean….fave from J.Brand but available from several of the denim guys.

Boyfriend jeans have become the jean over the past few seasons, and for good reason. The style is comfortable, and can easily be dressed up or down. While cropped may seem more like one you would wear during the summertime, you can transition these into fall. Throw them on with any pair of short booties or wear them with a fabulous heel to show off a great shoe!

Fashionable and functional, go for a pair of reversible jeans. Wear them in a charcoal grey wash one day and black the next. Two jeans in one sounds like a no brainer to me.

Aside from jeans, you can’t forget about toppers. Denim jackets are here in a big way, whether you wear one over a dress or pair it with denim bottoms. Yes, denim on denim is totally acceptable right now. You can also throw on the beloved chambray shirt, which should be a closet staple all year round.
