Eva Longoria’s Visit to Houston for her Debut at The Limited

All Houstonians know that the Galleria is constantly swarming with shoppers, wrapped in a perimeter of traffic, and yields only enough parking spaces for the truly lucky or incredibly patient.  Shopping at our claim to sartorial fame is always a big production, but when I, Jillian, was there a couple weeks ago, it raised the bar. The Galleria was buzzing and one sonorous word was chanted over and over again—Eva.

Eager Eva Longoria fans parked themselves in a single-file line in front of The Limited for the launch of the actress’ new collection. Before waves of fans poured into the store for the private shopping event, we got a chance to chat with Longoria about her new foray into the fashion industry.

Although Eva’s collection doesn’t feature hats, she sure does where plenty of them. The Texas-born, Golden Globe-nominated actress, producer and activist launched a robust line with more than 55 versatile pieces.  Encapsulating everything the modern woman needs in her wardrobe, the line includes flattering denim, professional blouses, cardigans, trendy dresses and clever graphic tees.

“I think every woman I know inspired the collection,” Longoria said. “Any woman who’s working, has a job, a personal life, a family, runs a household, and has to pay rent. This collection is for that woman,” she continued.

The Desperate Housewives star was stitching far before her time on the stage. Longoria started sewing at only 7 years old and always had the inkling she’d be in the design industry at some point in life. “I’ve sewn for a very long time and it’s probably something people don’t know about me,” Eva said.

Her eyes lit up as she continued, “I love the construction; I love seams and stitching. I pay attention to so many things.” Longoria admits she not only admires clothing on a rack, but will inspect the lining and questions construction.

“I’ve always been obsessed with clothing and I knew I wanted to do a line. I just wanted to pick a moment in my life where I actually had time to dedicate,” Longoria said.

Rather than just put her name on a label and be done with it, Longoria wielded her design skills to make a collection that is truly her own. “Every single item I’ve designed, sourced the material, fit the belt, changed the darts of the seams, and tested the prototypes of denims,” exclaimed Longoria in a tangent of excitement.

She hoisted the dresses up from the racks, toyed with the seams, pointed out the details—Longoria’s tactile reactions to seeing her pieces laid out in front of The Limited were that of a nurturing parent. When entering The Limited for the launch event, her eyes even glistened with a bit of mist (we got a little teary, too!)—a visceral response to her childhood dream coming to fruition.

Enough with the sentimental details—let’s talk about the clothing!

The most notable thing about Longoria’s collection is its versatility—in her words, “it’s so comprehensive.”

From feminine bow blouses to a trendy bomber jacket, the collection captures a multitude of day-to-night trends. “So often women have to spend so much money on a work wardrobe and a personal wardrobe,” Longoria said. “You can mix and match all of these pieces to fit in both worlds and not spend a fortune,” she continued.

From head-to-toe, Longoria’s collection at The Limited is representation of her passion and boldness. She describes her exclusive partnership with The Limited as a “serendipitous moment”—we can’t deny that Longoria’s style is a perfect and refreshing fit.
