Lashes…..in a Mask(ed) World

As Wearing Your Masks Have Become a Necessity of Life, Attention Continues to be Focused on the Eyes

Chelsi here….by now, you have learned that with our constant mask wearing, our eye makeup has ramped up and taken center stage.  If you need a refresher, click here for a few tips. Now that places are opening up and we are seeing more people face to face (or at least half face to half face), I am seeing women really turn up the volume and lashes are the hottest thing right now.

Sure there is amped up eye color and liner, but lashes are really what is adding oomph and making a statement.  My husband has even noticed the trend…asking me “are those really her lashes?”. Well of course not but they served the purpose in getting him to see that person’s eyes versus her mask.

Lashes aren’t what they used to be.  There are so many options out there that you can find a style and application that is right (and easy) for you.

Lash Building Mascara

If you want to get on board with the trend but start small, start with a great mascara like Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara.  It uses a Flake-Free Tubing Technology™ that wraps each lash from root to tip to build volume and length. The vegan formula also will not flake or smudge yet it is so easy to remove.

Lash Fiber Mascara

This type of mascara works by literally attaching small fibers to each lash to build up volume and length.  There are a few out there but my favorite is still the original, the Younique Moonstruck 4D Mascara.  This used to be a 2-step process but they have no combined it into one but you get the same result of really full and long lashes.

Mascaras can only go so far in adding length and volume, so if you are looking for more flair, you need actual lashes.  While they can be tricky to apply, I have found that over the years, the technology, the feel, the glue, basically everything has improved 1000-fold in recent years.  I have 2 favorites.  For a more natural look, Velour Lashes Effortless No Trim Lashes in Mini Me fit the bill perfectly.  These can be worn over 20 times and really add just a hint of glam.  If you want to go more dramatic, Lucky Cat New York Faux Lashes are for you. If you are going to try your hand at either of these definitely get an application tool as well!

Magnetic Lashes

Magnetic, what??  Yes, there are now magnetic lashes! They come in 2 forms. One is where they actually have magnets in the lashes like the Ardell Magnetic Lashes. They apply both below and above your lashes, sandwiching your natural lashes in between them.  The other is where you apply a liquid magnet of sorts for the lashes to adhere.  The Eyelure Pro Magnetic Lash System works this way.  You first apply 3 coats of the Liquid Eyeliner and let dry.  Then the apply the lashes to the magnetic liner and press to secure for all day wear.  They can be worn up to 15 times!

So whether you want to start small or go big, as long as masks are around (which I think will a long while), lashes will be here to stay.  Tell us your favorites in the comments!

  1. I loved this post. Yes, eyes are the new focus! I have some magnetic lashes, but your article gives great instructions about application. I tried the glue on ones several years ago, but was allergic to the surgical glue. They looked great, but had to have them removed.
    Thank you Roz,
