New Year, New Trends….Spring 2017 At First Glance

They All Hate Us

Image: They All Hate Us

2017 is already starting out to be a year of change and fashion is no exception! With a new year brings new trends! It also means that some of our favorites seen on the runway and worn by Fashion It girls in 2016 are being replaced. It’s Alyssa here chatting with you about a few of 2017’s hottest trends and how to incorporate them into your own sense of style.

Statement Sleeves

Though off-the-shoulder isn’t disappearing from the runways or your favorite boutiques for this season (or our wardrobes for that matter), the newest buzz is statement sleeves. Instead of showing off your shoulders this year, show some sleeve! From bell sleeves to ruffles to extra-long sleeves (on both tops and dresses), sleeves are definitely in the spotlight in 2017.

SLIP DRESSES

The slip dress is the new way to show off your curves! It’s a great transitional piece (especially with this Houston weather), and is becoming a staple for 2017.

Block Heels & Flat Mules

While stilettos are universally flattering, and a definite wardrobe staple, comfort is reigning supreme in 2017. The shoes of the year are the block heel and flat mule! We are all about the practicality of these styles. You can truly wear them over and over AND you don’t have to sacrifice style!

Statement Earrings

Blingy ear crawlers had a major moment in 2016, but don’t worry, the earring trend of 2017 is anything but understated. Bold statement earrings were ALL over the Spring 2017 runways – my favorites being Tibi and Proenza Schouler. Us ladies at MRG are big fans of big earrings if you can’t tell (here and here).

Vintage and One-of-a-kind Denim

While skinnies are a staple (and a favorite of mine), in 2017 its back to classic, comfortable fits. Think vintage-inspired washes, high waisted, loose fit, and a 90s vibe.

Pink

From pastel to neon, pink is a favorite color of the season. It was popular on the Spring 2017 runways with designers Balenciaga, Celine, and Valentino. Pink also appeared  on the red carpet at the 2017 Golden Globes.  Timing for early Spring couldn’t be better as this color trend is the perfect partner to Red with Valentine’s Day just around the corner!

And, the one trend that will never fade…STRIPES!

Stripes continue to be popular, both on the runway and off, from season to season. They truly never go out of style! The 2017 way to wear stripes is to go bold with multiple colors. You get bonus points if you incorporate pink and yellow, two of the biggest colors of the season!
