Oscars 2022 Red Carpet Fashion…..a Night to Remember

A selection of many of our favorite looks from this year's Oscars Red Carpet.

Jessica Chastain in Gucci, Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé, Zendaya in Valentino, Zendaya in Yves Saint Laurent

The Oscars are always a “Must See” for me, year after year, without fail, I watch and so I was ready to tune in and felt hopeful viewing the fashions on the Red Carpet that the night would have many, if not over-the-top fashion but several worthy pieces that would keep my attention.

A Look Back: Sharon Stone in 1998 wearing a Vera Wang skirt and Gap White Button Down shirt, many feel was the inspiration for Zendaya in the modern, 2022 version, head to toe Valentino

The entertainment was strong…..opening with an epic Beyonce (lime-green) number from Compton, the home of the Williams gals who introed the super-star. The night progressed with three female co-hosts, Amy Shumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, that brought a fun, smart and witty take to the evening……after all “three women were cheaper than one male host!”!

Many heavy hitters in the music world followed(Reba and Billie to name a couple) and many memorable moments ranged from the pure joy of the team of CODA, winning the big Picture award and the special win for Troy Kotsur, first-time ever deaf male to win an acting Oscar…..that win was especially heart-warming. Decanto won for animated feature……a favorite of my grands, I felt happiness for them. Jane Campion, only third time for a female director to win in that category. The Anniversaries were fun to watch and pay tribute to from James Bond‘s 60th to our family favorite, 50 Years of The Godfather……just seeing those amazing three guys, Pacino, DeNiro and Coppola together onstage excited me.

Nothing prepared me for the Will Smith/Chris Rock encounter……I looked on in disbelief feeling it must have been a prank until it became obvious that it wasn’t!

Oscars never seem to not be memorable and this one will surely go down in the Oscar history books for, unfortunately, probably the wrong reason but read on please…….take a look here at just a taste of the fashion of the evening and some of the biggest fashion trend ideas to take away…….

LADIES IN RED: The Color of Oscars Night

Kirsten Dunst, Christian Lacroix from Lily et Cie; Marlee Matlin, Monique Lhuillier; Jennifer Garner, Brandon Maxwell; Arianna Debose, Valentino Haute Couture

I’m loving how RED is becoming a dominant player in evening wear! In our hometown of Houston, just this past Friday evening, the Winter Ball was held, first large formal event of the year. RED was very present, a dominant color of the evening…….even worn by yours truly and it felt good!!

A Gown So Special It Stands alone in the Crowd

Jada Pinkett Smith in Jean Paul Gautier Couture…….loved this gown all evening, even before the dress and it’s owner became a much talked about topic of the evening.

Separates Step Up……

Kristen Stewart, Chanel Short Suit; Timotheé Chalamet, Louis Vuiton Shirtless Suit; Uma Thurman, Bottega Veneta top and skirt

Awards shows have always been dominated by ‘gowns’ and this night was not really an exception except for this sampling of some of the alternative looks making ‘separates’ an idea whose future could be ahead for us! The white shirt, ballgown skirt has always been a very stylish and special favorite look of mine and each holds a special place in my closet that make me feel so chic when I am wearing it!

All-Black Everything…..

Billie Eilish, Gucci; Penelope Cruz, Chanel custom including Chanel signature fabric necklace; Rachel Zegler, Dior Haute Couture; Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuiton Dress & Jacket

Metallic Tones…..

Olivia Coleman, Christian Dior Haute Couture; Lupita Nyong’o in Prada all-over jeweled fabric; Alana Haim in Louis Vuiton; Becky G. in Etro
