It’s Not Just a Workout…It’s a Revolution

Last week, my life changed slightly. This sounds dramatic, I know, but I did yoga for the first time in my ‘adult’ life, and it was pretty incredible. Julie here today, and when I did yoga over 10 years ago, I’ll be honest; I hated it. I was bored and I think I almost fell asleep during the class. Fast forward to this past week, and it was an entirely different experience. Fusion Yoga at the brand new Revolution Studio in West Ave is my new addiction.

Let me explain.

It was 7am, my alarm went off, I popped out of bed, ate a little breakfast (i.e. – a spoonful of almond butter…I seriously need to make a grocery store run) and headed to Revolution Studio. I walked in, and I immediately felt like I walked into a happy place. This sounds cheesy, but I don’t know how else to describe it. It smelled amazing (whatever candle they burn I seriously need to get my hands on), the entire studio is white, clean, modern, and just felt peaceful. Truly peaceful. Since it was my first time in, I got a little tour and then I went into my yoga class. An hour later, and I truly felt not only relaxed and calm, but awake, and ready to take on the day. And happy. SO very happy.

I took Fusion Flow Yoga with Michelle, and I’m already signed up for more of her classes this week. I chose Fusion Yoga because it’s a blend of yoga and pilates, and it’s in a room that is roughly 75 degrees (vs. the other types of Yoga they offer, which take place in a much warmer room). I’m sure I will try the other types soon enough, but so far, Fusion Flow is my jam.

Aside from yoga, on Monday I decided to go back and try their cycling class. Wow. I had tried a version of cycling/spinning a while back, but also didn’t fall in love with it. Well, consider me a convert, because I’m madly in love. It was SO much fun and SUCH a workout. I had an absolute blast, and I already can’t wait for my next class.

Revolution Studio is quite possibly my new favorite place. Beyond the basics (lockers, showers, bathroom), there are a couple other things I don’t see all too often at gyms or studios, and I want to point them out.

For one, Neutrogena makeup wipes in the bathroom! This may not sound like a big deal, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ll workout, realize I forgot my makeup wipes at home, and wish nothing more that I had them. Well, Revolution has pretty much anything you could possible need in their bathrooms. AND hair ties! Yes, also may not sound like a big deal, BUT how often do you forget your hair tie? Beyond those fun little extras, you are given ice cold eucalyptus infused towels on your way out of cycling class. Perfection! And I could go on and on. The studio is unlike any other I’ve been to, and I’m SO thrilled to now call it my new happy place.

Kim Syma, co-owner along with her husband Mitch, is not only knowledgable and beyond passionate, but so extremely sweet. I was able to chat with Kim for a bit after my yoga class the other day, and her story is the greatest. She and her husband, Mitch, met while in business school at UT, when she raised her hand in class to give the idea of starting a studio like Revolution. Her then classmate (now husband) loved the idea, they got to chatting, and the rest is history (in a nutshell). From Austin to New York City, she’s now in Houston, where she and Mitch run the three Revolution Studios (Sugarland, Memorial City, River Oaks). Their mission is to not only give you a great workout, but to make you feel apart of a community. And the second you walk into the studio you truly feel that way.
