Settle In For Some Me Time

Some Beauty tips for quarantine-ing days!

Finding some me-time has increased

Here in Houston, it’s a lazy, dreary and even chilly Saturday morning and as we prepare for MRG’s Sunday Edition coming out tomorrow, I wanted to share a posting here by our Beauty expert, Chelsi Oestreich in case you wanted to use this lazy day to get ready for the weekend. About this topic, Beauty Mask-ing……we have discussed this for awhile but it has come to the forefront of our beauty brain as we discuss so frequently another kind of mask that is so critical to our daily lives these days. Below are Chelsi’s favorites……please tell us yours!!!

From Chelsi: In my normal life, you know, before social distancing became such a way of life, I loved buying beauty masks.  Not the masks that our medical community so desperately needs, but masks for my skin, my eyes, and my hair.  I was all about the idea of me-time and having a deep treatment moment.  Problem was that the idea never translated into reality, as that me-time was hard to find.

However, since we have been staying at home, and will be for at least another month, I have been using this time to actually try the products that have been collecting dust on my vanity…and in my linen closet and in an overflow box in my closet.  I told you I had a problem of buying and never using.  That has changed and I am sooooo glad it did!

I am using this WFH time to give a little extra attention to my skin and my hair, cutting back on makeup, letting my skin breathe and giving my hair a break from the daily heat exposure from my dryer and flat iron.  Between my Zoom calls, I have been experimenting with a bunch of different masks and below are my favorites…so far!

For my Skin

Odacite Bioactive Rose Gommage

Eighteen B’s Hydrate + Restore Rich Cream

This has been one of my favorite skincare brands for a few years now.  You apply the gel mask with a brush (included with the product) and since it contains rose water, the smell of roses is subtle, beautiful and relaxing.  Containing pineapple and papaya extracts, it gently removes any dead cells and resurfaces the skin.  My skin does get a little flushed and red when I use this but hey, that tells me it is working! I always follow with a nourishing moisturizer like Eighteen B’s Hydrate + Restore Rich Cream to calm my skin and add the moisture it needs.

For my Eyes

Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask

Beauty tips
Shiseido Wrinkle Resist24 Pure Retinol Express

This eye mask made me nervous at first, putting retinol so close to my eyes, but who am I kidding – I will try anything!  These sheet masks are cut specifically for the under-eye area but could be turned and used for laugh lines around the mouth as well.  The Vitamin A is gentle and caused no irritation for me and when I removed the sheets, I couldn’t believe the instant results.  My skin was plumper and my lines reduced.  These would be great to use before a big party or dinner out but for now, I am using them to rock my Zoom profile pic.

For my Hair

Alterna CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Restructuring Bond Repair Leave-In Overnight Serum

Beauty tips
Altera CAVIAR Anti-Aging Restructuring Bond Repair

I love the idea of hair masks right up until I must lay my head on my pillow at night.  I never want to leave a grease spot on my sheets and pillowcase and I don’t do well with wraps, shower caps and the like when I sleep.  Enter this amazing mask that has a serum-like texture and absorbs quickly so there is no mess. It has an amazing smell and when washed out, left my hair soft and smooth with minimal fly aways.  I have naturally straight hair but in reading the reviews, this works on all textures.
