A store as cool as can be has come to River Oaks Shopping Center, and Roz and I (Julie) couldn’t be more excited about it. Only a few weeks in, Brooke Feather has already made a name for herself in her modernly chic store with a laid back stylish California vibe.

The other day Roz and I popped into Brooke Feather and got to chat with the adorable and lovely Brooke herself. Everything in the store, from the fixtures, to the merchandising, to the decor, to the product itself, is spot on. I love that many of the lines she carries are more unknown and not found at every store in the city, and the California inspiration throughout the store is something Houston was missing, and it’s picture perfect.

I was able to ask Brooke some questions to get more of an insight into who she is, what inspires her, and this fabulous new shop in town. Keep reading to learn more about this law student turned personal stylist turned shop owner.

My Red Glasses: What inspired you to start your own clothing store, Brooke Feather?

Brooke Feather: I have always been searching for that “one thing” I wanted to do and was passionate about.  I always loved the idea of having my own space and doing something creative – but I didn’t know what that would look like.  I have a law degree but was never in love with law.  I tried different things – but it wasn’t until I began spending a lot of time in Laguna Beach and discovered new and different clothing that I found my own style and fell in love with styling people and working in a boutique.

MRG: How would you describe your store?

BF: Clean and modern and airy, yet warm and comfy, I feel very comfortable and at home there and I want others to as well… It’s a CA style boutique and I have tried to incorporate art and other items that express my personality – all of the furniture, art, and many fixtures I found in CA.

Fixture-Details

MRG: Describe the girl/woman who shops at Brooke Feather.

BF: She can be any age, she is someone who wants to be styled, or just wants to browse and be left alone, ideally she is the type of woman who pops back in frequently to see all our new arrivals, she is someone who just stops in to say hi and have a cup of coffee in the morning or wine in the evening, she is someone looking for the perfect pair of jeans, or an outfit for a party, or just staples for their wardrobe, she is someone who loves fashion or someone who wants to learn more, she is someone who need to update their wardrobe or falls in love with a brand we carry and comes in every time we let her know there is a new shipment.

MRG: Which designers/brands do you carry?

BF: Crippen, Current/Elliott, RtA, Ulla Johnson, Nili Lotan, Closed, NSF, ALC, tons of denim (Frame, Citizens, Goldsign, etc..) – in the spring we will have some shoes and also Kristensen du Nord, Pas de Calais, and Local…  Impossible to list them all here but they are on the website!

MRG: I know you have a personal styling background – does that play into your store and how? Do you style up your customers head to toe? You said how you want them to feel their best when they walk out of your store, with multiple ways to wear the items they purchased. Can you talk more about this?

BF: It definitely plays a huge role.  I love to style people and so do my employees!  We love it when women come out of the dressing room to get an opinion and we can help them put something together.  We are always honest, we aren’t just looking to make the sale.  We want people to love their purchases and learn to trust us and call on us when they need something.  Customers can call ahead and tell us what they are looking for and we can pull pieces for them and get a room ready…  We will remember what brands people like and call them when they arrive…  We will remember what people bought previously and pull things that go with those items..  We are also completely fine with the customer who knows what they like and doesn’t want to come out of the dressing room and just makes their own decision.  We are not pushy – just there for help if someone wants us.  We had a customer come in who was going to LA and we outfitted her with some items and the next morning we opened early for her – she brought her suitcase in on the way to the airport and we arranged all the outfits – it was the most fun!

MRG: What else would you like our readers to know?

BF: We carry an assortment of accessories and jewelry… I am a handbag and jewelry girl so I have tried hard to be very selective and carry great jewelry and bags from designers that are not everywhere and special.

Brooke Feather is located at 2020 W. Gray Street, in River Oaks Shopping Center.
