The Duo Behind Sporty Chic Line Pam & Gela Comes to Houston

FEATURE

Imagine working with your best friend day in and day out. Sounds pretty incredible if you ask me (Julie). Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor do just that, and they have been for quite some time now. These two fierce ladies were the founders of Juicy Couture what feels like eons ago with only $200 to their names. Fast forward years later and the line known for their velour track suits was sold for millions and millions of dollars to Liz Claiborne. And now Pam & Gela (official website launching soon) has been born, which is the modern day Juicy Couture, but even more chic.

Think sporty, modern, edgy, and timeless. Think leather track pants (which I own and can’t get enough of) with pieces that take on a ‘California-cool’ vibe. Think clothing you can wear day to night, with heels or flats.

These ladies graced Houston with their presence this past week and I got to meet them at Tootsies, and they are even more fabulous in person. Not only is Pam & Gela in the hottest stores in the country, but these ladies also wrote a book (that came out in May) ‘The Glitter Plan,’ which is part memoir, part business manual. They are rockstars to say the least (and one is married to an actual rockstar…Nash-Taylor is married to Duran Duran’s John Taylor).

They told me they absolutely love working together. I mean how could they not?! I asked if one of them focuses on certain areas of the business while the other focuses on others, and they said not at all. They both do everything and it works out perfectly.

I also chatted with them about Juicy Couture, which we all know for those tracksuits (I owned more than I’d like to admit!). They said that’s what worked then, that’s who they were then, but they have evolved, and so should their clothing line. While you won’t find velour track suits in the Pam & Gela line, you will find modern day versions of comfortable clothing, and that my friends, is something I, personally, love. To be comfortable and stylish? Yes, please!

And, finally, we chatted about Houston, which is a city they absolutely love. They said, and I quote ‘This city knows how to party!’ They had a great visit while in town, and in thinking about it, maybe that’s why their newest collection (coming out in Spring 2015) takes on lots of western influences. It’s a beautiful collection that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
