Blurred Lines…Music and Beauty Crossover

Chelsi here, you know by now that I am a beauty junkie constantly looking for the next big thing but you probably don’t know that I am equally passionate about music.  As a kid, I was introduced to Fats Domino by my Grandpa and my parents had a vast collection of vinyl and 8-tracks (remember those!) ranging from the Mamas and the Papas to the Oak Ridge Boys. I love all genres from all decades and we constantly have a rotation playing in the house that goes from Fleetwood Mac to Bon Jovi to Bruno Mars and everything in between.

In 2017, my two favorite things have collided like never before and we have seen a bevy of new makeup and skincare brands with some very well-known musicians at the helm.  We have seen this before in the fragrance world but not so much in the other categories….and certainly not with the success these women are having.

MDNA Skincare

Before there was Queen Bey, there was the original…Madonna.  As an artist, she constantly transforms herself and has remained relevant after all these years.  One thing that has remained constant is her beautifully smooth porcelain skin and her ability to defy the aging process.  Now she is sharing her skincare secret with the world in her new skincare line, MDNA Skincare.  Partnering with a Japanese lab and a premier dermatologist, Madge produced a line based on Italian Thermal Water, which gives the product a powerful mineral balance to hydrate and improve radiance and clarity in the skin.  The collection includes cleansers, serums, and cremes.  The coolest product is a tech-savvy  Rejuvenator Set, which comprises of a Chrome Clay Mask that is then removed, along with impurities, with a magnetic tool.  For more information on the application process check out this you tube video.

Victoria Beckham for Estee Lauder

This year we saw Posh Spice, I mean Victoria Beckham, launch her second beauty collection with Estee Lauder, which has been wildly successful.  In addition to being one-fifth of the super group, The Spice Girls, she is also a talented designer with partnerships in prestige and mass, so being a cross-over talent is hardly new to her.  Her collection comprises of products for the eyes, lips and face, but IMO, no one does a smoky eye/nude lip look better than her.  To recreate her signature look, check out her Eye Palette, Eye Ink Matte Eyeliner and her Matte Lipstick in Victoria, of course!

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

Since her debut track “Pon de Replay” dropped in 2005, Rihanna has been non-stop hit after hit.  This year, her latest mega-hit came in the form of a full color line carried exclusively at Sephora called Fenty Beauty.  Since its launch, it has generated more buzz and constantly sold out, becoming one of the most successful launches of all time.  The line is complexion-focused, offering 40 shades of foundation.  Only a few other brands rival this wide range, but they lack the star and social power that only Rihanna can provide.  The brand earned the prestigious award from Time Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2017 for their inclusivity, which has been long overdue.

Who will be the next music star to launch a beauty brand?  “Eleanor Rigby” or “Roxanne” or maybe even “Jolene”.
