Call it a Poncho, Call it a Cape, Call it a Wrap…What it’s Not is a Coat

Poncho…cape…wrap…they are interchangeable, but all achieve the same thing. They are toppers without being coats. They keep you warm without the restriction of sleeves. And they are the hottest outerwear pieces out there right now. And for good reason.

Here in Houston, we don’t get to wear coats and heavy jackets all too often. Yes, there may be those freezing days here and there, but they are few and far between. Given the more moderate temperatures we experience here throughout fall and winter, an investment coat isn’t necessarily the most practical unless you travel quite a lot.  What is practical (and ever so stylish) is the poncho (or cape or wrap). Reason being you can easily throw it over whatever you’re wearing (from jeans and a shirt to a skirt and blouse to a formal dress), you don’t feel constricted since there are no sleeves, and it keeps you just warm enough.

These days, you can find ponchos just about everywhere and at all price points. We’ve pulled together some inspiration on how to wear this wardrobe staple. Keep scrolling for some fabulous looks along with our favorite ponchos that you can shop right here from our site!

  1. Perfect for our climate. I haven’t seen a coat department in a store in 20 years. Oh no! Global warming?
