A Golden Night In Hollywood….Red Carpet Fashions from the Golden Globes Big Night!

FeatureThree of my most favorite looks from last night Golden Globes:  J.Lo won it for me, in her marigold caped gown, Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuiton; Julianna Moore in Tom Ford navy sequins.

The Golden Globes are always my favorite start to the big Hollywood Red Carpets and this year they did not disappoint.  I love them because they are a little less serious than the Oscars and the celebrities have a tendency to step out a notch, take more fashion risks.  I loved last night, with Host Ricky Gervais, who is never at a loss for words and takes no prisoners when speaking “the truth” as he called when it needs to be said.  One never knows what to expect but that adds a great fun element to the show.

Below are my favorites for the evening…..the stand out in the crowd.  There were others that I loved like Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren, Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka and Jane Fonda in St. Laurent couture, but they always look so elegant that it just was to be expected, I guess!  Diamond jewels steal the show in some cases and BTW, the guys looked pretty awesome themselves……Leo, John Hamm and many others, including Tom Ford, himself who made a guest appearance, a first, I think, for a designer to be a presenter?!  Many highlights of the show, but my focus is, as always is on the fashion and here are my picks……

Amy-and-JLaw

Two besties on and off-screen, Amy Shumer and Jennifer Lawrence sat together, presented together and were even nominated for the the same award, which J Law won; Nothing stands in the way of their friendship, say the ladies, and last night their gowns even complemented each other.  Amy in black/white Prabal Gurung and Jen, of course, in Dior’s subtly cut-away red gown with coverlet top and outstanding diamond bib necklace from Chopard….divine!

Blush

Cate Blanchett looked lovely in the color of the season, soft rose pink with embroidered and fringe detailing by Givenchy Couture;  Miss Golden Globe, daughter of actor Jaimie Fox, Corinne Cox, looked elegant in a blush sheer, embroidered gown with doves on her shoulders.

Emmy

Jaimie Alexander, star of Blindspot, looked ravishingly in beautiful emerald green gown and accessories from Italian designer, Genny. Emmy Rossum, a stunner in Giorgio Armani Prive with more exquisite diamond rope necklace.

Hudson

Presenter Kate Hudson, stepped out in an edgy, definitely not for everyone, ensemble in apricot from Michael Kors;  Rooney Mara also stepped out in a spring-right colored feather trimmed gown by Alexander McQueen

Shades-of-Pink

Amber Heard, in luscious sheer coral and bordeaux Gucci gown with lovely trimmed floral mix at the neck of the same colors.  That bordeaux color was very prominent last night, as were all shades of red….here Kate Bosworth in Dolce and Gabbana in those same colors!

Untitled

Nominee for Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander in white Louis Vuiton. Nicolas Ghesquiere made his first notable futuristic gown in satin stripes with hints of glitz.  Apron front top with subtle ruffles at neck and at sleeveless arm detail. She was stunning and is destined for major stardom, I predict….love her total look and demeanor!

Untitled2

Jennifer Lopez was the talk of the evening and of the net this morning as the show stopper look of the night.  The marigold Giambattista Valli caplet gown was stunning and even included a little hint of that Angelina Jolie leg.  Her Harry Winsteon diamonds at the neck were 240 karats and her entire look….simple hair, beautiful make-up made her a stunner for the evening.

Untitled3

Julianna Moore can always count on her buddy and date or the evening, Tom Ford, to come through with an awesome look for her for these events. In this case, navy sequins, do the trick and look gorgeous on the beautiful actress!

White

Loving White or evening, love it…..Lily James of Cinderella and Downtown Abbey in Marchesa and the ever-so-hot Cookie, Tariji P. Henson from TV’s Empire, was so excited to be a winner that she gave cookies away to all she passed on her way to the stage to accept her award. She was stunning in a modern white Stella McCartney for this very special evening.

Zendaya-and-Olivia

Here is that color again……Bordeaux, done in two different ways.  For Zendaya, by Marchesa was a soft ruffle tiered gown in beautiful textured rose patterned fabric; for Olivia Wilde, Michael Kors took the same color of the evening and added the glitz factor…..all over slinky sequins!

lady-gaga-golden-globes-2016

Most Improved Star/Celebrity look of the evening must go to Lady Gaga, who has been discarding her ‘meat dress’ look for a more hollywood-glam look of late.  She looked stunning in her custom Versace gown in Italian black velvet, personally designed by Donatella, whose daughter, Allegra, is a chum of Gaga’s.  I feel this new look gave Lady G. a much more demure, feeling of herself as as he spoke on the Red Carpet and accepted her speech with genuine warmth for the people that she cares about……she won me over for sure, last night!

Please do tell us either on this post or one of our social media outlets, just who your favorites were……we’d love to hear!  Thanks!
