Heading Into Fall With A Velvet Touch

With the destruction and rebuild we have endured here in Houston, it is needless to say we are ready for fall more than ever!  Cooler weather hasn’t quite hit us just yet, but we all want to stock up on the perfect items before it’s too late! Kristen here, and I have rounded up several must have velvet pieces for your fall wardrobe! Even just a little velvet touch or accessory will make you stand out and be perfectly on trend this season.

We saw velvet trickle in a few accessories and shoes last fall, but this year it’s making even more of a statement from haute couture to ready to wear pieces. Take this beautiful handbag from Gucci, for example. Accessories are always an easy way to update your wardrobe. A velvet bag like this one below will be sure to make you stand out this fall. A velvet bag or clutch is the perfect accessory to any outfit to complete your outfit for parties or a fresh daytime look.

Pleats have also made a comeback and looks like they are here to stay. A velvet pleated midi skirt is the perfect addition to your wardrobe. A flirty velvet skirt, like this one a la Fab Fit Fun Mom, is the perfect way to show off your feminine side for fall. Also, how stylish would this be for Houston transitioning from fall to winter? Since it doesn’t tend to get very cold here (if you recall the last couple of Houston “winters”) a velvet skirt will be the perfect piece to wear with or without leggings with a pair of heels or fun booties.

During New York Fashion Week, many fashion attendees were rocking velvet in their New York street style from one show to the next. If you really want to go all out in all velvet, then you should try a velvet pantsuit. The jacket and pants would be so chic worn together or even separately. The outfit ideas are endless as you can pair a fun top with the pants or add some leather pants on the bottom with a velvet blazer. This outfit ensemble also works for the office and will be sure to give you a polished and professional look.

If you are sitting here thinking, “Kristen, I love velvet, but I think it is a little too out there for my style.” Have no fear. There are many different ways to express your style while taking small steps to incorporate more trendy pieces in your wardrobe. Belts, hair accessories, and scarves are the perfect ways to add just a small touch of velvet to your typical “all black” outfit for fall. Also, the great thing about velvet is that you don’t have to make a huge statement to feel like you are the showstopper at your fall event. A small velvet statement is the perfect way to show off your sense of style without being too daring.

Last but not least, we have to talk about all velvet shoes! These are a must addition to your fall wardrobe this season. Shoes are the perfect statement to any outfit and add some flare to an otherwise boring outfit. A velvet pair of heels will be the perfect conversation piece to any fun fall or holiday party!
