Oh What A Night….Valobra Master Jeweler’s Grand Opening Had It All

ValobraFranco Volobra (center), known for his hosting aplomb, had it all for the grand opening party of his new jewelry store location…. Priceless Jewels, World-class Chefs and even, Cat Burglars prowling the jewels!

As we arrived at the party venue, a large tented space adjacent to the beautiful new Valobra Master Jeweler’s new boutique, next door to St. Anne’s Church in River Oaks, we knew we were in for something big. The security to this invitation-only event was heightened, the exterior was overflowing with lots of joyful attendees appearing to be having a great time and there was just an energy that you felt even as you were walking into the tent.

Much of the buzz was about these amazing world-class chefs, some of the finest in the country….Thomas Keller of the French Laundry, Daniel Boulud of Daniel, and Jerome Bocuse of Les Chefs De France. The question on everyone’s lips was what brought them to Houston, Texas and the answer goes back to Keller’s and Valobra’s common interest in racing Ferraris and a  friendship that stems from meeting at a racetrack a decade ago.  These three gentlemen amazed the crowd where they so graciously prepared incredible delicacies and served them to the crowd of 300 in such a warm, congenial manner.  Such nice guys that appeared to be having a great time.ValobraDaniel Boulud, Franco Valobra, Thomas Keller, Nancy Valobra, Jerome Bocuse

About the Chefs: These three men are all widely-decorated and respected.  Thomas Keller is the only American chef to have been awarded simultaneously three star Michelin ratings for two different restaurant, the French Laundry in California’s Napa Valley and Per Se in New York City.  Daniel Boulud, owner of Daniel and a restaurant empire that includes seven restaurants in New York. Jerome Bocuse is the son of famed Paul Bocuse and established Les Chefs De France.

About the Jewelry:  The party was such fun that we did have to be reminded why we were there but once we strolled into the jewelry boutique, we became immediately in awe of the  many special pieces brought in for this event. The spectacular evening featured an exhibition of a number of the world’s most historically important and coveted diamonds, including the legendary Famese Blue Diamond and the Golden Eye Diamond, both the subject of great interest and press coverage. Owned by the likes of Marie Antionette.
The store marks a new chapter in the history of the Valobra Jewelry Atelier, which began in 1905 in Piazza San Carlo in Torino Italy. (a large photo of the piazza in San Carlo is featured in a prominent location within the new store). Franco Volobra, a fourth generation jeweler, is known as the ultimate arbitrator of the finest taste in jewels and whose creations have been worn by the Italian Royal Family, seen on the Academy Awards and Emmy red carpets and featured on the pages of Vogue and W. Locations for Valobra jewels remain in this newest Houston location, New Orleans and Lugano, all continuing the family tradition of designing and creating jewels for the most discerning and sophisticated tastes.
