Shopping Trends From the Ever Popular Round Top Antique Show

When people say they are going to “Round Top” what that really means is that they are going shopping to the continuous stream of vendors set up in fields/buildings all along Texas State Highway 237 between La Grange and Highway 290.  Twice a year merchants descend from all over the nation to the rural stretch of road and set up shop for approximately two weeks.  It is so hard to explain to those who have not been, but let me say you will see bar carts, vintage Tupperware, farmhouse tables, chicken feeders, school lockers, antique highboys, jewelry of every style and price, fine high end linens, fiesta ware, African art, scrap metal, quilts, planters and the list goes on and on.

Heather here today, for the last 25 years I have been going to Round Top/Warrenton and over the years I have seen much change and much that has stayed the same.  My sister and I started going with our mom many years ago and now it has evolved to a ladies weekend.  Two nights away from husbands and kids to shop, shop, shop!

The very first item I ever purchased in Round Top was an antique Mexican sugar mold and it is still an ever popular item.  However as style and design changes so do the shopping trends.  From junk yards to garage sale stuff to high end stores there is something for everyone.  This year did not disappoint.  See my “best of” picks for Spring 18 below.

  1. Heather, check out Cheryl Long’s Pure West/Pure Vintage studio when she is there. I met Cheryl at Nutcracker Market probably 30. years ago and wrote about her when I was Fashion Editor of the Austin American-Statesman. She has added beautiful paintings to her repertoire. True Western treasures!
