The Beat Goes On at White Oak Hall as Friends’ Tribute Benefits American Heart Association

MISSISSIPPI-BORN SINGER-SONGWRITER CHARLIE MARS TO OPEN FOR LEGENDARY LIVE PERFORMER AND 3-TIME GRAMMY-NOMINATED ARTIST, GRACE POTTER, AT TRIBUTE CONCERT

As a long time supporter of American Heart Association, prevention of Heart disease and the research necessary to combat it, have become a passion of mine now for many years. For that reason and to call out what will be an awesome evening I am happy to share with my readers what The Fields Companies – the parent organization to JD Fields & Company, Inc. a Houston-based company, are sponsoring to pay tribute to Jay Fields’ longtime friend Michael Carroll, whose life was tragically cut short from a rare congenital heart disorder. The Fields Companies are serving as the major underwriter for The Beat Goes On – a tribute concert at White Oak Music Hall on Febraury 24, honoring the late Michael Carroll.

General admission tickets for the February 24 show, priced at $60, are now on sale via the WOMH website.

As underwriter for the night’s performances, the Fields Cos. is ensuring that 100% of the proceeds go directly to the American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Featuring the sultry vocal stylings of Charlie Mars – the Mississippi-born country- and folk- inflected pop artist blessed with a warm croon and a knack for crafting poignant, earthy songs – and headlined by legendary live performer Grace Potter, The Beat Goes On will take place during February Heart Month.

Grace Potter – a three-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and musician who formed the band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in 2002 – went on to release her debut solo record Original Soul in 2004. After parting ways with her band, she released her second solo album, Midnight, in 2015, followed by her 2019 album, Daylight, which garnered two Grammy Award nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance.

“Music was always a core part of Michael’s soul,” emphasized Fields Companies CEO Jay Fields, who was Carroll’s best friend and business partner in Foxgate Capital, a private equity investment firm and subsidiary of the Fields Cos.

“I miss Michael every single day. He was a man of faith and character who loved his family and his friends and would do anything for them without hesitation. His life was cut short much too soon; my mission in organizing this concert is to honor his memory and to raise money for a worthwhile cause in the American Heart Association. Hopefully, the funds raised via The Beat Goes On will go toward research that will save lives in Michael’s name.”

Grace Potter

Headliner Grace Potter – who Bob Dylan called one of his favorite contemporary artists in an interview with the Wall Street Journal last month – is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for her powerful, bluesy vocals and high-rock energy. Over the years, Potter has collaborated frequently with country superstar Kenny Chesney, including on the Grammy-nominated song “You and Tequila.” Throughout her career, Potter has been a champion of philanthropic causes, most notably the Alzheimer’s Association.

Charlie Mars

Show opener, Charlie Mars grew up in Mississippi listening to various styles of pop/rock. After graduating high school in 1992, he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas. During this time he began seriously pursuing a music career. It was also while attending SMU that Mars formed the Charlie Mars Band and released several albums.

“Too many young men and women lose their lives far too soon as a result of heart-related incidents, including Michael,” noted AHA Greater Houston Development Director Bruce Padilla. He added, “The American Heart Association is proud to partner with The Fields Companies on The Beat Goes On. Through research and education initiatives funded via noble causes such as this benefit concert, the AHA continues the critical fight to carry on the work of the six pioneering cardiologists who established the non-profit in 1924.”
