The Plush Life….Velvet Returns as a Fall Favorite

1featureVelvet, Always a Popular Fall Fabric Trend of Years Passed,  Has Returned this Season in many fresh new ways, including Accessories and lots of Embellishments!

Velvet, the fabric most popular in the 90’s has made a major comeback this Fall, dominating many of the runways from New York to Paris. It is a ‘star’ within the trend this season towards luxe, opulent fabrics…..that are either richly embellished within the weave of the fabric itself or highlighted with design and/or embroideries attached throughout the garment.

In Velvet we have classic and formal looks such as structured pantsuits, separate jackets or elegant gowns as we have known it in the past. Looks that BTW, feel so right this season that many of us can resurrect from our own archives for some very now-looking styles.  However, some of the newness of the season is in casual wear and in my personal favorite approach to this luscious fabric…..through Accessories, especially in shoes with Booties taking number one position followed by sandals, pumps and slippers. (especially loving those slide-on bedroom inspired slippers).  Handbags and even scarves or wraps are also another way to pop this trend into your wardrobe as well.

Always looking for a great popover jacket to wear over jeans or dresses….make it velvet this year or if you prefer head-to-toe dressing, pop it with a scarf, a choker or long statement necklace to add some novelty!

3

Colors that spell F-A-L-L…….Burgundy or Brick/Rust in a mixture of color and texture.  If you’re a panne velvet person, it’s here again also….just remember, a little goes a long way!

4

Two carry-over styles from Spring that translate well into velvet…..the Pajama look pantsuit and the slip dress, worn alone or layered up!

5

The Color Black, a velvet staple, gets a change-up shown in two novel ways……great as a capelet, trimmed in ruffles, a favorite adornment of the season and the embellished jacket which I’m lovin’

6

Richly colored shown with a pop or just as a stand-alone, great dress!

7

Classic elegance…..the tuxedo look shown in its natural tailored state or feminized by Emilio Pucci in a tuxedo-influenced dress

8

Contrasts in color and adornment

9

Romona Kerveza and Valentino……velvet shown simple and elegantly

10

Very modern, very sophisticated…..the long and short of it!

The ‘Gold Rush’ trend interpreted in panne velvet or also adorned with lace back interest by Roberto Cavalli

ACCESSORIES

Velvet looks newest when not worn head-to-toe….meaning velvet dressing matched to velvet accessories.  A stand-out accessory as its own piece looks amazing.  A bootie in a rich colored velvet, worn with a pair of cropped jeans, either denim or leather…..newest way to go!  Looks particularly great when you kick it up a notch by making a color statement such as in burgundy or cobalt or even take it a step higher by adding a printed velvet bootie to your wardrobe.
