Time has a way of marching on, even when it’s moving too fast. That is the case for me of my sharing the fun experience of viewing Cathy Borlenghi and daughter, Carolyn Mara’s dual art show at Rebecca Lankford’s Studio 703 RLD the day before I left for my Italian adventures. So many pieces from both ladies that I liked and wanted to share and naively thought I could send this out from Italy…….just didn’t happen! So I’m doing it now, as Carolyn’s large ‘mop paintings’ will be at the studio until the end of the month and Cathy’s repurposed Mrs. B. Collection now has a permanent home at this Studio 703 in the Heights.

As many of us know, there is nothing greater than sharing art with your off-springs. Although Cathy and Carolyn have chosen different mediums to express their creative talents……they are united in exquisite taste and designs that they each bring to their very unique artistic creations.

Carolyn’s Mop Paintings are large-scale, abstract pieces on canvas created from a series of throws and strokes with a mop. Stemming from an artistic practice grounded in understanding movement, restraint, intuition, and spontaneity — Carolyn is exploring her own emotional states in relation to the movements and decisions made while creating each piece. She openly shares this painting process with viewers, challenging many people’s notion of what is art. To learn more about this technique you should visit her website at www.carolynmara.com…..or definitely, do as I do and follow her on Instagram at carolyn_mara .

When Cathy Borlenghi developed this high-end jewelry line and debuted here in 2014, I was so taken by its uniqueness that I purchased several pieces myself, which I still am wearing today, as well as co-hosting a trunk show of her gems at the launch time. SCARAMAZZA, a baroque, highly imperfect fresh water pearl is the basis for the MRS. B Collection. Each pearl has a unique shape, color and size inspiring the final earring ring or necklace.  Because the shape of each pearl is so unique, the gold (satin 18K rose in color, which I loved) is done by hand using a technique called “lost-wax casting”.

Like so many things, if it’s great style, it never goes away and that is the case with Cathy’s newest take on her beloved collection……all still built around that Scaramazza pearl, she has updated the collection for 2021 and added leather and other materials and much more modern styles as she repurposes the collection.

It should be noted that Cathy has stated that this is it! No more of Mrs. B, so it’s your last chance to view and purchase these stunning updated pieces at Rebecca Lankford’s Studio 73 RLD, where they are in permanent residence.
